Catamaran on the Bay

Sea lions at the boat dock, in the heart of touristic San Francisco

With an anniversary coming up and my mother in town, a day out on a catamaran seemed like a good idea. To be fair it was a good idea, albeit dampened by the foggy weather and the horrendous traffic. To give you an idea, here's the traffic...

...and here's Alcatraz in the gloom!

In contrast, this is what the Bay looks like on a sunny day, gorgeous hey?!!

Now I've got the moaning out of the way I can tell you what was good about our day out.

1) The people at Adventure Cat put us on their next sailing when (thanks to the traffic) we missed our 1pm boat. Despite dire warnings on our tickets they generously went out of their way to accommodate us, thank you so very much. This is why it's good to do business with a small local company.

2) Catamarans are fun and the boat was relatively small. It's a quite different experience than the larger ferry style boats that pack the tourists in cheek by jowl. I highly recommend going this way instead.

3) It is wonderful to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge, even in the fog.

P.S. Here's what you wear for a summer day out on the Bay!
